Chinese herbal extract can significantly delay aging and prolong life

Aging is a degenerative physiological process characterized by a decline in biological function, adaptability and resistance, and it is also an important risk factor for a variety of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, which brings a huge burden to the whole society.

Acanthopanax Acanthopanax is a kind of herb with "food and medicine homology". Its extract of Acanthopanax Acanthopanax polysaccharide has many excellent biological functions, including anti-oxidation, anti-radiation, anti-tumor, hypoglycemic and immune regulation.

However, whether Acanthopanax polysaccharide can delay natural aging is still unclear.

Recently, The research team from Shandong University published a paper entitled "Antioxidant and anti-aging activities of the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules. Acanthopanax senticosus polysaccharide CQ-1 in nematode Caenorhabditis elegans ".

The study found that the extract of Acanthopanax Acanthopanax polysaccharide can significantly delay aging, prolong life, and enhance the resistance of nematodes to oxidative stress.

Antioxidant and anti-aging activities of Acanthopanax senticosus polysaccharide CQ-1 in nematode Caenorhabditis elegans

The researchers first treated the nematodes with different concentrations of Acanthopanax polysaccharide and found that the average life expectancy of the nematodes treated with 0.2 mg/mL polysaccharide was not significantly different from that of the control group.

However, the median life span of nematodes treated with 0.4 and 0.8 mg/mL polysaccharide was prolonged, and the life span of the latter was significantly increased.

Further study found that compared with the Acanthopanax polysaccharide treatment group, the control group showed a series of characteristics associated with cell aging, including reduced movement speed, reduced body length, and reduced head and tail oscillations.

It is worth pointing out that Acanthopanax polysaccharide treatment significantly reduced the accumulation of lipofuscin.

Finally, the researchers found that treatment with polysaccharides at concentrations of 0.4 mg/mL and 0.8 mg/mL enhanced the ability of nematodes to withstand heat stress, resulting in an approximately 50 percent increase in survival.

In addition, oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide showed that 0.8 mg/mL polysaccharide treatment could also prolong the life of C. elegans.

It is worth pointing out that Acanthopanax acanthopanax polysaccharide treatment increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes in C. elegans.

In summary, the study found that Acanthopanax acanthopanax polysaccharide, an extract of the Chinese herbal medicine Acanthopanax Acanthopanax, can significantly delay aging, extend lifespan, and enhance the resistance of nematodes to oxidative stress.
